Mention in All About Jazz

All About Jazz published an extensive review/recap of the Portland Jazz Festival today in their online edition.  There’s also a shorter version that appears in this month’s print version of All About Jazz:New York.  I’m mentioned a couple of times in the local section – once for sitting in with Dan Balmer’s band and the other for the casual gig Russ Kleiner put together at the Tugboat with Damian Erskine, Dan Duval, and myself.  Here’s the article.

First Post

I’ve decided that in addition to JazzPDX.org, I’m going to start a small blog on this website to discuss what I’ve been working on, what shows I’ve been checking out, what I’m listening to, etc. I’m also going to try to post occasional mp3 files from concerts, rehearsals, etc. every once in a while.

Right now, I’m ready to do some relaxing after the 2008 Portland Jazz Festival concludes. The festival seemed to be a success in general – apparently there were over 150 shows associated with the event. I was part of a few of those and managed to catch a few more of the acts as a listener.

Also, I’ve been trying out some mouthpieces that Patrick Springer gave me to try, including a tenor piece that’s making me consider playing more of the instrument again.

Thanks to everyone who made the February 21st Old Church concert a success. Expect audio clips and pictures to be coming soon.

Upcoming events to look out for include two shows with the Drew Shoals Collective – February 24th at the Someday Lounge and March 1st at Zaytoon.

Then the following week, I’ll be playing with my electric project, E4, at Jimmy Mak’s on March 3rd and at Wilf’s on March 7th with Ben Darwish and Dave Speranza. Hope to see you there.
